Ngorongoro, hapa kazi tu means just work in the Ngorongoro.

Air Tanzania’s A220-300 takes off from Entebbe Airport in Uganda

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) on 22 February welcomed the wings of Kilimanjaro when the Boeing 737 made its debut flight into Lusaka. Newly incorporated national airline Air Tanzania will now fly into Africa’s second largest copper producer Zambia as the southern African nation re-calibrates itself as southern Africa’s transport hub. Air Tanzania seemed to have done an aggressive relaunch when it simultaneously launched the Dar-es – salaam – Harare route in addition to the Dar-es- salaam – Lusaka route.

Other airlines expected to fly into Zambia are Air Botswana to mention but a few. Zambian law makers have been in relentless talks with regional carriers to boost air travel in the quest to lower travel costs and in readiness for the new airport infrastructure which expected to be one of the largest in the region.

Zambian Transport Ministry officials receive Tanzanian counterparts at the launch of Air Tanzania in Lusaka on 22 February.

For us the skies are borderless as we are all citizens of Africa and part of regional economic groupings such as SADC and COMESA. What we are seeing, is a manifestation of regional economic grouping expectations and it is long overdue. We encourage what we are seeing in the skies, to replicate itself at trade level too because therein lies the solutions Africa’s problems. We see ‘tourism and transport’ route swaps in the context of Zambia Airways or existing Airlines being able to reciprocate the routes. We expect Zambia Airways to touch the Tanzanian skies and we expect tourists into and out of Zambia because both nations have tourism assets to offer.

Economics Association of Zambia National Secretary – Mutisunge Zulu

More and more airlines are expected to touch Zambian skies in readiness for launch of Zambia Airways in third quarter of 2019.
