As the ‘s’ in ESG unravels in Africa’s copper producer, more women are taking roles in the C-suite of key corporates. One latest development is the appointment of Faith Mukutu as Chief Executive of the largest agribusiness entity in Zambia, Zambeef Plc (ZM:ISIN0000000201). Mukutu takes over from Walter Roodt who will continue with the company focusing on strategic projects.

Mukutu (41) a chartered accountant has a track record as Chief Finance and Value Management Officer with Lusaka Securities Exchange listed entities such as AB InBev’s subsidiary Zambian Breweries Plc and Illovo Zambia operation Zambia Sugar Plc. Until her appointment she served as CFO.

According to stock exchange news, effective 01 July Faith Mukutu will assume the Chief Executive Officer role, taking over from Walter Roodt. Faith has been instrumental in the Zambeef transformation journey that has seen the entity propel to heights. Recently Zambeef embarked on a $100 million expansion program that should see its Mpongwe asset double its capacity to leverage off the opportunity that the Russo – Ukraine war has created in grain market dislocation. Mukutu will be tasked to drive the initiative that should see the agribusiness scale to higher heights. Joining Zambeef in 2019, Mukutu successfully transformed Zambeefs balance sheet management structure from being dollarized to local currency denominated allow the company to be hedged against the economic turbulence that Zambia has seen the last few years.

“The Board is confident that Faith’s combination of financial aptitude, operational skill, strategic flair and capital markets experience is fundamental to delivering the strategic imperative the company embarked on,” Board Chairman Michael Mundashi said according to a SENs report.
