Africa’s second largest copper producer Zambia is in the labyrinth of thoughts on how it can use its foreign policy to attain economic diplomacy. Think tank Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) is spear heading the first ever regional summit dubbed the Future of Economic Diplomacy – Supporting inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa.
Association President Dr. Lubinda Haabazoka took some time to echo the needs for economic collaboration between Zambian and Israeli businesses during an interview at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the faculty of Business Administration on 16 March.
Dr. Haabazoka pointed to Zambia’s prioritization of the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector under the smart Zambia program, as a potential avenue for collaboration with Israel. He said Israel remains a shining example of a nation that has against all odds enhanced and harnessed innovation as a conduit to developing its agriculture, health, education and manufacturing sectors.

We call upon all stakeholders in Zambia to join hands for a coordinated approach towards national economic development. Technologies such as the planned Center for Nuclear Science and Technology under ZAMATOM will help the agriculture sector get clearance to export produce to advanced markets, enhance medical tourism which Israel is known for and also provide solutions to industry, he said.
The EAZ has been on aggressive road shows in the build up to the debut National Economic Summit to be graced by Zambia’s Head of State alongside international thought leaders from 25-26 July 2019.
