London Institute Banking Fellow – LIBF and Housing Development Finance Professional Joseph Mwansa Chikolwa has been named Board Chairman by Ecobank Zambia effective June 21 taking over from Chileshe Kapwepwe. This appointment is one of the many directorate changes that the banking sector in Africa’s second largest copper producer Zambia has seen in the year. The first wave of directorate appointments saw former central bank deputy governors ascend to chair boards of financial institutions.

Chikolwa, brings takes with him a wealth of over two decades of experience cutting across mining portfolio investment, equities trading, commercial and mortgage banking. He has served in a Chief Executive Officer capacity for Zambia’s largest bank by asset size Stanbic Bank Zambia (SBZ), the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE), ZCCM-Investment Holdings (the state mining investment vehicle) and Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS). Prior to his first chief executive role, he served as Corporate Banking Director for Standard Chartered Bank Plc. He currently serves on the boards of British American Tobacco (BAT) Plc and Prudential Life Assurance as Non Executive Director.
Chikolwa is an indigenous bred Economist for University of Zambia, a Fellow of the London Institute of Banking and Finance, Cape Town University Certified Housing development Finance Professional and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Bangor University in the United Kingdom.
