Barely a week after 2017 Africa’s award winning FMCG of the years subsidiary Universal Mining and Chemical Industries Limited (Kafue Steel plant) extended a blank cheque of oxygen to the constrained healthcare system in the continents second largest copper producer, Trade Kings Group has yet donated advanced oxygen concentrators, respiratory accessories and hygiene products to 5 level one hospitals in Lusaka. The donations were made to Chipata Compound, Chawama, Matero, Chawama and Chilenje General Hospitals in addition to Kalingalinga, Bauleni and Chelstone Clinics. This intervention was in response to the surging demand of oxygen therapy needed to curb the breathing hurdles that COVID19 patients are facing.

It is about a dry point of construction that the healthcare challenges homogenous to the globe for which Zambia is not exempt have continued to give rise to opportunity for corporate objectivities and those of a social nature are converging. Trade Kings Sustainable Responsible Investment – SRI intervention not only demonstrates the FCMGs agility to evolving needs but its comprehension of the healthcare ecosystem. Every economic system requires interventions of both the public (health authorities) and private sector to complement each other so as to avert market failure.

UMCIL’s Kafue Steel has continued to provide, at zero cost, oxygen to healthcare facilities that do provide their own cylinders but the initiative to donate concentrators to level one centres goes an additional mile in revealing the company’s commitment to addressing the Zambian healthcare ecosystem bottlenecks because without concentrators, oxygen can not effectively be transmitted to COVID patients with breathing hurdles. The Zambian private sector has been challenged to step up and emulate the contribution an indigenous company such as this one has demonstrated in pandemic times.
