The World Bank in its latest announcements named Dr. Samuel Munzele Maimbo as Internatoo slow Development Agency – IDA Director Mobilization. This took effect 01 July 2020. He joins the ranks of senior central bankers that once served at Development Banks in senior capacities such as current Bank of Zambia governor, Dr. Denny Kalyalya who once served as Executive Director at the World Bank (2012-2014) and Dr. Caleb Fundanga former central bank governor, who served as Executive Director at the Africa Development Bank to mention but a few.
In this role, Dr. Maimbo will manage implementation of IDA policy framework in COVID19 period as the World Bank provides support to struggling nations, oversee the continued implementation of IDA hybrid financial model and assuring overall integrity of its finances and to maintain IBRD financial sustainability and capacity with attention to policies affecting its capital adequacy, income generating capacity and balance sheet management.
With over 18 years experience at the World Bank, Dr. Maimbo has served in various capacities such as Practice Manager, Long Term Finance and Risk Management in Finance and Markets (for 5years 4months), Senior Advisor, Lead Financial Sector Development Specialist for Europe and Asia (2years), Lead Financial Sector Specialist for Africa Finance and the Private Sector (2years), Senior Financial Sector Specialist to Mozambique (2years 8months), Senior Financial Sector Specialist to South Asia (5years 8months). Dr. Maimbo served as Senior Inspector at the Bank of Zambia (2years).
He holds a Doctorate in Public Administration from Manchester University (where he also served as a senior research fellow) and a Master of Business Administration from Nottingham University. Dr. Maimbo is also certified chartered accountant and member of the Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants – ACCA with a Bachelors of Accounting Degree from the Copperbelt University.
