The Board of Directors for Zambia Airways on 07 February, passed a special board resolution to appoint Bruk Endeshaw Abebe as its Chief Executive Officer. This was contained in a statement shared with the Business Telegraph (BT) by acting board chairman Mr. Bonventure Mutale. Zambia is on a steady trajectory to relaunch Zambia Airways this year. Abebe brings a wealth of experience having been in the sector for over 25 years. Prior to his appointment, he served as Regional Director for Sales and Services for the Southern African circuit.
The airline is a joint venture between the government of Zambia represented by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) with 55% shareholding and Africa’s best and most profitable carrier, Ethiopian Airline with 45% stake. Ethiopian Airline has been on an aggressive path to take over African skies through very strategic partnerships while simultaneously collaborating with nations looking to set up carriers that will leverage off its leadership prowess.
Zambia Airways revealed its board of directors in Q4:18 and will now search for executive management to run the carrier sustainably. Relaunch of the national carrier comes at a time the Southern African nation is in the process of constructing 2 state of the art airports at a cost of US$0.9billion as it repositions itself as a transport hub.
